Privilege of King Sigismund I the Old granting the city of Lwów a bathhouse and bathhouse rent
King Sigismund I the Old grants the municipal bathhouse located opposite the Franciscan monastery to the mayor, councilors, and the city of Lwów in perpetual ownership, along with the rent previously paid to the royal castle. The income from the bathhouse is intended to support the municipal treasury, which is burdened with expenses for the repair and expansion of fortifications.

IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, AMEN.
For the eternal memory of the matter. Since nothing in human affairs is lasting or stable, but everything changes with time, it is customary to strengthen what is passed on to the memory of posterity with the testimony of documents. Therefore, we, SIGISMUND, by the grace of God King of Poland, Grand Duke of Lithuania, and also Lord and Heir of the lands of Kraków, Sandomierz, Sieradz, Łęczyca, Kujawy, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Chełmno, Elbląg, Pomerania, etc., announce by this letter to all whom it may concern, present and future: that since our city of Lwów bears great expenses for the repair and strengthening of walls and the construction of towers, to which is added the fact that it is renovating our bathhouse within its walls, opposite the monastery of the Friars Minor Conventual of the Order of Saint Francis, at public expense, without deriving any benefit from it, as the rent from said bathhouse is paid to us at our castle; desiring to increase its annual income and so that there may be a testimony of our benevolence towards it, moved by the urgent requests of the illustrious mayor and councilors of said city and the intercession of some of our senators, we have given and donated to them [the mayor and councilors] the very rent that was paid to us at our castle from the aforementioned bathhouse, as well as the bathhouse itself with all rights, jurisdiction, and ownership, with the express consent of our advisors then present with us, just as we give [and] donate it by way of a perpetual and irrevocable gift, reserving nothing of the right, ownership, and jurisdiction regarding said bathhouse and the rent paid from it for us and our successors, but transferring everything to the city itself, so that henceforth the bathhouse keeper, who shall take over this bathhouse by the will of the illustrious mayor and councilors of said city of Lwów, present and serving in their time, shall not be obliged to answer to anyone other than these same illustrious mayor and councilors for the rent derived from this bathhouse. For this rent derived from the aforementioned bathhouse shall be collected, received, and accepted by the above-written mayor and councilors from the bathhouse keeper and applied to the benefits of the city, as they see fit according to their discretion. Which [rent] we add, include, and appropriate to the remaining income of said city, reserving no right or interest in it for us and our successors. In faith and testimony of which, our seal has been appended to this [document]. Given in Kraków, on Tuesday before the next Rogation Sunday, in the Year of the Lord one thousand five hundred and forty-seven, and in the forty-first year of our reign.
