The Lwów councilors, acting as administrators of the Holy Spirit Hospital, grant the miller Maciej Malski and his wife Katarzyna a sum of 30 grzywnas on the third part of a newly built mill on the Pełtew River in the village of Malechów, and grant them possession and use of this part. The document reserves the life rights of Wawrzyniec Morawiński and his wife Anna to the remaining two parts of the mill and imposes on Maciej Malski the obligation to maintain the entire facility in the future.

COUNCILORS OF THE CITY OF LWÓW Elders and acting [councilors], patrons and administrators of the goods of the xenodochium, that is, the Holy Spirit Hospital located within the walls of Lwów, as well as of the poor and destitute residing there, we make known by the content of this [document] to all together and to each one individually, present and future, who shall receive knowledge of this. That we, having just regard for the labors, costs, and special diligence of the honest miller Maciej, called Malski, from the village of Wojatycze located near Sambor, which he showed and expended without hesitation for the convenience, benefit, and maintenance of the said Holy Spirit xenodochium, or rather the sick and destitute resting therein, regarding the erection and construction of a mill on new ground of the village of Malechów, hereditary property of the said hospital of the poor, on and over the Pełtew River, in the direction of the village of Zniesienie, near the border from the village of [the most illustrious?] and noble Kazimierz Hynek, below the mill called Zembły, located in the hereditary village of Zboiska; and desiring to make him satisfied for such services and to compensate him for those costs and labors, as well as to make him more inclined to other services which in time might prove more beneficial to the said poor – to the same Maciej called Malski and his lawful wife Katarzyna, as well as their lawful heirs and successors, we have reformed, secured, and inscribed, and by these presents do reform, secure, and inscribe, the sum of thirty grzywnas of money in Polish count and currency, calculating forty-eight groszy for each grzywna, on and upon the third part of the aforementioned Holy Spirit Hospital mill and other goods belonging to the said hospital. Reserving two parts, that is, measures, intact for the said hospital and the poor. Namely, that the said miller Maciej together with the said Katarzyna, his spouse, as well as their lawful heirs and successors (with the reservation, however, of the life interest of the reputable Wawrzyniec Morawiński and his wife Anna), shall hold, have, possess, and use the third part of the aforementioned mill and other goods pertaining thereto, together with all profits, fruits, and revenues, however concerning this third part of the mill. From which third part of all grain milling [...] of the said mill, by whatever name or title they might be called, they shall collect the third measure according to the custom of other mills located in the lands of Rus'. While Wawrzyniec Morawiński himself together with his wife Anna, according to the record of their life interest, shall collect two parts, that is, measures, just as they have collected them until now, according to the special agreement concluded between them, while the miller Maciej himself shall collect the third part until their death; for which reason the said Wawrzyniec Morawiński and Anna, spouses, as long as they are in possession of the said mill, are bound and obliged to give and pay two groszy for its repair, and the said miller Maciej the third grosz. Subsequently, when the same mill, after the passing of those spouses Wawrzyniec Morawiński and Anna, returns to the possession of the said hospital, the said Maciej together with his wife Katarzyna and his children or descendants shall be obliged to repair all necessary things of that mill at their own expense, without any expenditures by the said hospital or the poor, which the said miller Maciej has voluntarily accepted for himself and the aforementioned Katarzyna, his spouse, and his children or descendants. And neither the miller Maciej nor Katarzyna, his wife, together with their descendants, should abandon or devastate such goods, but improve and build upon them; and if the said miller Maciej or his descendants build anew or enlarge anything there around the aforementioned mill by any of their own effort and skill for the convenience and benefit of those poor or the hospital, they shall also collect a third part of such profits and revenues. For the reason of the said third part of the said mill, the said miller Maciej together with his wife Katarzyna, children, and his descendants shall be obliged to appear with all and individual matters not elsewhere, but only before us and our Lwów municipal office with his family, and there they shall be bound to answer to any plaintiff and justify themselves. And we and our successors, the councilors and provisors of the said Holy Spirit Hospital for the time being, shall not be able, nor shall they be able, to remove the said miller Maciej, his wife, children, and descendants from the said mill and the goods specified above without any known cause. And if anything of such nature were to occur at that time, for which he or they would have to be removed from there, then first we and our successors, the provisors of this hospital and the poor, shall be and will be obliged to return and pay to the same miller Maciej, Katarzyna his wife, children, and their successors this sum inscribed on the aforementioned third part, that is, thirty grzywnas of money. Furthermore, if in the course of time the miller Maciej himself and the aforementioned Katarzyna, his wife, or the said children and successors for any reason wished to resign, sell, or otherwise alienate that third part of the said mill to someone else, then they shall not be able nor should they do so without the special consent of us or our successors, or the provisors of the said hospital; and if anyone dared to do anything to the contrary, it should have no power or weight. In faith and for a stronger and more visible testimony of all this and the individual matters above, our seal has been appended. Done in our council residence on Tuesday before the upcoming feast of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist in the Year of Our Lord one thousand five hundred and sixty-four.
