SIGISMUND Third by the grace of God KING OF POLAND, Grand DUKE of Lithuania, Ruthenia, Prussia, Masovia, Samogitia, Livonia, and also hereditary King of the Swedes, Goths and Vandals etc. We hereby announce to all and each person concerned by this letter. Since the Most Reverend Lord Jan Zamoyski, Archbishop of Lviv etc., has submitted to us that, with the advice and consent of his Chapter, as the great necessity of his diocese required it, he has erected or – once erected, but extinguished by the adversities of time – newly revived in his Metropolitan Church of LVIV the office and dignity of archdeacon; however, he could in no way provide for the maintenance of the burdens of this dignity and ecclesiastical office from the modest and meager revenues of his archbishopric, and he asked us that we might deign, out of our royal grace, to attach and incorporate the Busk provostry, subject to our royal right of patronage, to the aforementioned archdeaconry. We, desiring to multiply the worship of God and to strive for the good administration of the Church, and also to show favor to the aforementioned Lord Archbishop, do perpetually attach and incorporate the said Busk provostry to the thus erected archdeaconry, and we cede and grant the right of our royal patronage, which we have hitherto exercised in the appointment of the said provostry, to the Lord Archbishop and the Lviv Chapter and their successors: so that whatever CANON, previously holding a canonry of the said church by virtue of our royal right, the chapter shall choose from among its members according to canonical regulations as archdeacon, and the same archbishop shall confirm and strengthen him, immediately to the same thus confirmed and strengthened archdeacon, the Lord Archbishop together with the Chapter has the right to grant the said provostry and shall exercise this right perpetually and forever. In witness whereof, we have ordered this [letter], signed by our hand, to be strengthened with the seal of our Kingdom. Given in Warsaw, on the 18th day of April, in the YEAR OF OUR LORD 1606, of our reign in POLAND the nineteenth, and in SWEDEN the THIRTEENTH.
