[Top of the page, in pencil:] 15.IX 1840 [Fiscal seal / stamp:] 20 RHENISH FLORINS [Stamp:] I. R. CONTROL STAMP dated October 24, 1840 VIENNA We, Ferdinand the First, by the grace of God Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary and Bohemia of that name the Fifth, King of Lombardy and Venice, Dalmatia, Croatia, Slavonia, Galicia, Lodomeria and Illyria, Archduke of Austria, Duke of Lorraine, Salzburg, Styria, Carinthia, Carniola, Upper and Lower Silesia, Grand Duke of Transylvania, Margrave of Moravia, Princely Count of Habsburg and Tyrol etc. etc. We hereby openly declare and make known to everyone: Since the market town of Rożniatów in Our Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria has requested confirmation of the long-exercised right to hold seven fairs each year and permission for these seven fairs to be held on the following days, that is: the fourteenth of January, the Wednesday of Mid-Lent week, the Tuesday after Pentecost, the twelfth of July, the thirteenth of August, the twentieth of September, and the twenty-first of November of each year. As we are by principle inclined to contribute as best as possible to the good of Our faithful subjects, after hearing the authorities, We have most graciously granted this most humble request of the market town of Rożniatów, albeit without prejudice or harm to Our princely and sovereign rights or those of anyone else, and without violating the current and future order of the country, and under the condition that if any of the mentioned days falls on a holy day of obligation, the fair is to be held on the following working day. The market town of Rożniatów may therefore hold the fairs confirmed by Us on the specified days for all eternity and enjoy this right, as follows from the market authority and custom, without anyone's hindrance. We therefore graciously command all Our authorities, inhabitants, and subjects, of whatever rank, dignity, or office they may be, and in particular Our Gubernium established in Galicia and Lodomeria, to protect and preserve the market town of Rożniatów in this privilege, so that they do not allow anyone, neither them nor anyone else, to undertake anything against it, under pain of Our severe punishment and disfavor. This is Our sincere will as testimony to this letter, sealed with Our Imperial-Royal and Archducal pendant great seal, which was issued in Our imperial capital and residential city of Vienna on the fifteenth day of the month of September after the Birth of Christ in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty, and in the sixth year of Our reign. Reading notes

Gross error in the Ukrainian catalog card: the year 1540 was entered and the document was attributed to Emperor Ferdinand I of Habsburg (16th century). In reality, the issuer is Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria (reigning 1835–1848, as King of Bohemia and Hungary Ferdinand V), and the document is dated September 15, 1840 (in the 6th year of his reign). Additionally, the document bears a fiscal stamp from Vienna dated October 24, 1840, and a pencil note '15.IX 1840'. The document is written on parchment, the bottom edge is cut where the pendant seal was attached (seal detached/missing).
