Translation / modern text

[P. 2] From Klausenburg, January 21, 1692. Noble Sir Forbes, my gracious Lord and Friend! It is well known to Your Grace, my Lord, that I stood surety and pledged myself for the late host Márton Lipi [...] for 1150 red zlotys in Jarosław to Your Grace, my Lord. Since the aforementioned Mr. Márton, while returning from Jarosław, was killed on the road, his wife is now demanding payment of those 1150 red zlotys, my dear brother. Because there is no longer any debt instrument left after the deceased, she does not want to believe that I should have stood surety for him or that he owed anything to Your Grace, my Lord, and she demands from me a certificate for this from Your Grace, my Lord. This certificate is to be drawn up in Latin and under the Lviv city seal, and furthermore, some Greek gentlemen must sign it as wit- [P. 3] nesses, such as Mr. Hadzi Kiriaki, Mr. Iftaes, and others. Therefore, I earnestly entreat Your Grace, my Lord, to be so kind as to send me that certificate here to Klausenburg as soon as possible, and direct it to Mr. Boyfowsman [...]. Requesting this of Your Grace, my Lord, I remain Your Grace, my Lord's well-wishing friend and servant. [signature in Greek alphabet:] Jan Teodor [...] [P. 4] [Address:] To the Noble Mr. Arthur Forbes, my gracious Lord. To be delivered in Lviv.
