Translation / modern text

[P. 2] My most Gracious Mr. Hejder. On March 24th, I wrote to Your Grace, my gracious Lord, regarding the matter of selling scythes outside of trade fairs, as Your Grace, the gracious Mr. Orsetti, discussed with Your Grace while in Lviv, to which I have received no answer to this day. We have already sent that Mr. Longbard, our servant, there with full information; we ask that Your Grace, my gracious Lord, deign to be kind to him, and if Your Grace, my gracious Lord, would not wish to accept those terms as I wrote, then in whatever he might need the counsel of Your Grace, my gracious Lord, for our sake, [Your Grace] would not deign to refuse. For which, in every respect, we remain obliged to serve and repay Your Grace, my gracious Lord. Regarding that Mrs. Maleszkowiczowa or Kwaśniowska, there is no need for anything more [...], only [...] to give a thaler to the practitioner and summon her before the face of His Grace the Reeve – I must pay for this, if it can be done without a power of attorney, and if it is needed, I shall send it promptly. And with this, I diligently commit myself to the grace and kind friendship of Your Grace, my gracious Lord. Given in Kraków, on the 24th of April in the year 1647. Your Grace's, my most Gracious Lord's humble and kind friend and servant Krzysztof Schedel [by his own hand] [P. 3, Address:] To His Grace Mr. Maciej Hejder, councilor and merchant [...] illustrious, and to me most Gracious Lord and Friend into his hands In Lviv

Reading notes

Page 1 is an inventory card with an incorrect/distorted recipient's name ('Матвій' instead of Maciej) and the author's surname read as 'Шедель' (Schedel). The signature clearly reads: 'Krzystoph Schedel'. This concerns representatives of well-known merchant families: the Schedels of Kraków and the Hejders (Hajders) of Lviv; the merchant Orsetti (Wilhelm Orsetti) is also mentioned in the text.
