[P. 2]
Noble and Distinguished Gentlemen,
Most Respected Gentlemen!
Since the case involving blasphemers, brought before the municipal court of Your Graces, is still being examined and remains unresolved, therefore, so that such a matter, which touches upon the faith, does not suffer from delay, but is settled as quickly as possible through the strict attention of Your Graces, I address Your Graces by virtue of my office, urging that – within the limits of the law and without allowing for the longest delay – Your Graces would deign to incline not toward impunity for the offense, but toward the imposition of punishment. For with such a great weight of crime, where the matter itself demands severity, trials should be accelerated, not postponed. Therefore, so that God and justice may be satisfied without delay, I do not doubt that
[P. 3]
Your Graces will wish to show your scrupulousness in this, preventing all consequences arising therefrom, which would have to result from improperly weighed justice, which I do not wish for at all. I shall therefore await with the greatest impatience the resolution and decision from Your Graces, so that with their assistance I may always effectively declare myself
Your Noble and Distinguished Graces'
most devoted servant,
Atanazy Szeptycki, Bishop of Lviv, by my own hand.
In Uniów, on the 9th of December, 1725.
