Translation / modern text
[P. 2]
My Lord Prince,
None of the most zealous and faithful servants of the King of glorious memory, the Father of Your Royal Highness and my most gracious Patron, could have received the lamentable news of the death of His Royal Majesty with greater consternation and sadness,
[P. 3]
than that which I feel with all my heart. Driven by the zeal I have always cherished for the service of His Royal House, I take the liberty and honor to mourn at the feet of Your Royal Highness the loss that has been suffered, along with all of Christendom and his faithful servants, among whom I may boast without presumption that I am one of the most zealous. I have also endeavored to remind the public of this in an article which Your Royal Highness will find in the attached newspaper, and I hope to find under the protection of Your Royal Highness's grace that which I have just lost, assuring you that throughout my life I shall remain with the most humble submission, zeal, and fidelity,

My Lord Prince,
Your Royal Highness's
most humble, most obedient, and most faithful
servant F. Mollo

Reading notes
The author is François (Francesco) Mollo, a long-time agent and diplomatic correspondent of King John III Sobieski in Amsterdam (incorrectly interpreted in the archival inventory as a person with an illegible surname, although correctly recorded in the Ukrainian description as: Молло Франціск). A letter of condolence after the death of King John III Sobieski addressed to Prince Konstanty Sobieski in Warsaw. A newspaper with a published article was attached to the letter (mentioned in the text, missing from the unit). On p. 4, a black wax seal (mourning) is preserved.
