Most Reverend Sir, Dearest and Most Respected Friend!
Having commended my dutiful services to Your Grace's favor.
Your Grace's letter was delivered to me in the village, through which indeed so [...] I shall not depart, and especially not having these urgently needed ones at hand; then [...] what Her Ladyship the Hetmaness [...], having gathered everything together, departed for the army. Two years have already passed since Her Ladyship Lady Podczaszyna was in Szkło, she wrote [...] for me to visit her, which I gladly did. There [...] she opened her pious intentions to Miss Poznańska, namely seeing so many poor people, wanderers, that they are in great misery, where they have nothing to put in their mouths, and did not remember about eternal salvation, about any confession. There and then she conceived the hospital fund from her intention and our advice, which for memory contains the following:
First, that Her Ladyship founded a hospital right by the water, on church land, in which hospital there are two large chambers with a small room and a hallway. In these chambers [...] 12, more or less, to which water is piped, [and] three large troughs, in which [...] water, there the poor bathe. Yet there were about 20 of them this summer [...], whom Her Ladyship sent off in Szkło; these poor are given food and drink only for a few weeks, and when they are cleaned up, Her Ladyship used to send cloth and shirts [...], and so they departed. Now they are leasing the hospital [...], and this is to be turned toward the improvement of the house and other needs.
She also built a second house [...] taxes from the water on the hill, in which there are two tidy rooms and a small room within them, but this house is still unfinished. This year, being there [...] with Mr. Dezanowski, to whom it was leased for a year for 40 zlotys, from which money he was supposed to repair this manor, but I see that he will accomplish nothing with this. Her Ladyship was also supposed to send money, but in this, God ordained otherwise – [...] about the building.
For the sustenance of these poor, Her Ladyship gave one thousand Polish zlotys, and for the servant of the poor one hundred zlotys [...]. For this money, a perpetual rent was to be bought on some
[P. 3]
tenement house [...] in Lviv, for each year 66 zlotys: 60 for the poor, and for the one who is to perform the service, [...] 20 zlotys. Which I have not done yet, because such was the will, that without touching this money [...] she was to try. I would gladly be able to obtain [...] also very adjacent to Szkło, she was to turn this money to that reeveship or try, seeing Her Ladyship, that the controversies of His Lordship the Hetman about the tavern in Szkło and about the hide of land for the sustenance of the poor. And now before her death, Her Ladyship asked me if His Lordship the Bishop of Przemyśl had received it, she ordered Her Ladyship to negotiate. However, I already gave this money two years ago to the town hall in Lviv for safekeeping, for which money I have the security of the councilors with me; they, using it and paying, give 60 zlotys for the poor, and one hundred zlotys is with me.
As for this hospital: Her Ladyship designated this sum to the Archbishop and the Lviv lord, merciful by His grace. According to my opinion, the Zamość College [...], whoever would be the bishop or dean of Zamość. Her Ladyship left the curators to the Lviv Chapter and the Lviv councilors, so that they [...] would provide and strive for one thing: who would look after the feeding of these poor and take care of the building of the hospital and other needs. This is the foundation itself, for which there is no legal document yet for higher reasons, only a copy or [...]. However, [the document] remains with me, signed and with her own writing [...], so that I might edit it into the form of a public document and certify it. Which I have not done until now, and I was to write to His Lordship the Hetman about all this and [...] do further with this. We promise to serve Her Ladyship with a full heart in this hospital, although I myself am old and am ready, if such were the will of His Lordship the Hetman. And this money [...] I was already to place for a perpetual rent, to record on [...] a tenement house in Lviv, but with all this, I will wait for His Lordship's will. Would that God had granted that [...] Her Ladyship herself, according to her pious intentions, would have grounded this hospital, as she always writing to me, fervently promised it, for I cannot manage much by myself.
First, that there is no release from His Majesty the King for this land on which the hospital and the small manor stand [...].
Second: the building is unfinished, from which there could be benefit if it were completed.
[P. 4]
Currently, the obstacle is the Jaworów lessees, who [...] to the building, to whom more people flock; now they do somehow, but later, if there were no freedom from His Majesty the King, this hospital would have to collapse and probably not think about this reeveship anymore. Yet if the tavern and two hides of land adjacent to the parish were there, it could stand on its own.
Third: there would always be a need for a manager who would live by this building so that it would not go to ruin, hire servants, and perform service for the poor, who could be content with this hide of land before, and [...] add zlotys to the sum.
Such is the content, as much as I can gather from memory. However, I am sending a servant to Lviv so that he may send [the documents] of the foundation to Your Grace's hands, because I myself, due to lack of health, cannot drag myself to Lviv [...]. I also ask Your Grace [...] to apply priestly prayers [...] and how to found this hospital, and with me, this holy undertaking and the pious intentions of Her Ladyship, your sister, to deign to execute. She surrendered herself to God when she departed from this world in such a way. [...] they give honor and Christian glory to God in this regard. As for the rest [...]
in Sokolniki, the 19th of October 1654.

Adm[odum] R[evere]nde D[omi]ne, amice char[issi]me et obs[ervan]dissime
Zaleciwszy powinne słuzby moie do łaski W[aszej] M[iłoś]ci.
Reading notes
Blatant discrepancy with the inventory note from the database ("The sender asks to be appointed archimandrite"); the inventory card on p. 1 correctly describes the content: a letter from Wojciech Perlicki, canon of Lviv, from Sokolniki to Mikołaj Kiślicki, dean of Zamość, regarding the foundation and state of construction of the hospital in Sokolniki. The writing is difficult, with many abbreviations and specific orthography.
