Gracious Lords and Friends,
Mr. Mayor, Gentlemen Councilors of Lwów!
Time has reminded me to renew before Your Graces that matter concerning Bratniszka [...] Sarmantka [...] with the reeve's son [...] that side. Regarding which, first that one ran to your judge, I gave, at the request of His Grace (which I also send the letter of the testifying [...] ), relief, that by the publication given to me, which he also [...] does, running to Your Graces. I waited for what was entrusted, conscientiously for the diligence of the investigation, during which this little man was on the joined quarters, until the shrinking of blood and fainting. [...] intervals of time, in which both myself and through the household members worthily, and in this and that way, inquiries were made. And when I could extract nothing from him – he denied most firmly what he had testified before [...] and before the Ruthenian Voivode himself – I deemed it appropriate, according to the information of His Royal Majesty, to send him back to Your Graces. [...], according to which Your Graces are obliged to act by the duty of office, I myself do not wish to interfere further. [...] Your Graces [...], for this information of His Majesty the King also commands that it should proceed gently and firmly, yet not allowing Jews to their own sum. I commend myself to the grace of Your Graces themselves, and of my friends. Given in Jarosław on the 4th of August, 1605.
Your Graces' well-wishing judge [...] Jan Świętosławski [by his own hand]

Reading notes
P. 1 is an inventory card from 1979. Handwritten document from 1605, paleographically difficult in places (abbreviations, ligatures). Jan Świętosławski, then among other things a royal secretary/referendary of the Crown, informs about the examination (torture) and interrogation of a prisoner and his return to Lwów in accordance with royal disposition. On p. 3, a wafer seal is preserved under the paper.
