Translation / modern text
Lublin, 14 October 1696.
Most illustrious benefactor.
I humbly thank you for the favour through which I was able to meet my own [brother]. He increasingly experiences your sincere goodwill and favour, thereby obliging me too to hold your name in ardent esteem and to serve you.
He told me on this occasion [...] [several words concerning hope placed in the recipient’s goodwill are uncertain]. He links his future prosperity to this hope and rejoices in his heart. Although already advanced in age, he remains eager to serve you for the rest of his life. This also gives me comfort and willingness to carry out your commands. If my brother has difficulty in fulfilling them, the cause lies not in him but in the calamities of the interregnum [...] [the passage about fears, want and seeking help has not been fully resolved]. There is also a lack of [...] [a passage containing a Latin expression about rescue or a horse is uncertain]. I am not surprised that this prompts him to act in the face of an uncertain outcome.
Yet I trust in God’s goodness and the tenderness of your heart: you will continue to sustain with more lasting assistance the man to whom you now show favour. In this way his incentive to serve will grow. I announce his arrival before long [...] [the passage about readiness to serve and precedence of age has not been securely deciphered]. With deepest respect I commend myself to you. I bow to the most illustrious lady benefactor, requesting unchanging favour and protection.
Your most humble servant, Aleksander Grodzicki.

Opowiedział mi pro hac vice, idzie wierzę ex pectoris gratia WMM Pana Dobrodzieja munimenta spei odzien [odczyt niepewny], wiążąc sobie fata przyszłych fortun parturientis [wyraz niepewny] specie. Pańskim czego jako mu serce rośnie y lubo in decrepita aetate jest in auge et fervore dożywotnych ku Panu obowiązków, tak y mnie czyni incrementa pociech y ochoty ad nutus WMM Pana Dobrodzieja, którego rozkazów droga jeżeli przez rodzonego aegre

Jednak nie wątpię w dobroci Boskiej et in teneritudine serca Pańskiego WMM Pana Dobrodzieja,
Reading notes
The date is clearly 14 8bris 1696 = 14 October 1696. Pages 8–11 form one letter; there is no new heading on p. 11. Numerous switches between Polish and Latin have uncertain syntax, particularly p. 10 and the beginning of p. 11; this is explicitly a partial translation. Neither the brother’s name nor the identity of the “lady benefactor” has been established. The interregnum is mentioned in the text; no particular political or military event has been added. The announced arrival does not prove that it took place. All 11 pages were viewed. Two separate letters, without an additional copy. No earlier translation in the files checked. Spelling partly regularized; not a diplomatic transcription.
