[P. 2]
Honorable Sir, worthy friend!
These neighbors of Your Grace, who will deliver this letter to Your Grace, have been with me, complaining that while bearing all the burdens falling upon the community, they cannot receive from Your Grace what everyone in the community has; that is, that [...] horses to you [...] from [...], the reason for which, although I know, I do not wish to complicate the matter. What is presented to the others is a certain semblance of piety, while what these people demand is pure justice, and that of the highest order; I would wish for these matters to proceed without delay. For when working people complain that they suffer great burdens from this, not only inconvenience but also damage; we, who teach people piety, [...] it is necessary that we do not measure our own benefits by the damages of others. I urged these people to spend it, but they say that no one is buying, and this stump of non-buying is very [...], which should truly be felled [...], for the scythe has hit a stone. Therefore, as the magistrate upon whom these matters depend, may Your Graces lead everyone to this, so that Your Graces may appease yourselves among the people. Being asked, I ask that everyone remains with justice. And I commend myself to the good friendship of Your Grace. In Stawczany, 4 July in the year of our Lord 1610.
Well-wishing to Your Grace
Jan Zamoyski, Archbishop of Lviv
