Translation / modern text
The sender reports that a bed and [possibly fine] fabric from Amsterdam have arrived safely in Gdańsk. He also added a parcel, as instructed by [surname uncertain, possibly Urbański], to a ship belonging to the Voivode’s castellan of Czernichów. The same intermediary sent chairs and other goods by another route. The sender hopes everything was delivered intact and without damage. He has not yet received final confirmation that all the goods have been sent from Amsterdam and asks whether all instructions, including those concerning Mr Urbanowski, were fulfilled. He will provide a fuller account in a later letter. Reports from Hamburg and Copenhagen say that more than 60 ships were lost in the storms, including a Russian vessel carrying grain and butter; details of its cargo and the people aboard are unclear. He also sends French news from Amsterdam and awaits the recipient’s decision about the grain discussed in his previous letter. Dated Gdańsk, 28 October 1701.

Reading notes
Two intermediary surnames in the text have similar but not identical forms; they have not been treated as certainly the same person. The material name after “łóżko” needs checking. The report of more than 60 ships sunk is the sender’s account of news received in letters, not an independently confirmed casualty figure. The reading of Copenhagen is provisional. The event has not been identified with another known storm based on this mention alone. The “French news” has not been identified as a specific newspaper. A second reader thought the adjective after the uncertain material name might be “bogatej”; this does not establish that the fabric was brocade.
